POTASSIUM SILICATE MARBLE SAND PRIMER / SERIES 931
Based on modified potassium silicate, allows MARCOSIL finishes to be applied on old, but not powdery synthetic paints. High filling and masking powers, ensures even absorption by the support surface. Thanks to its high breathability it is especially effective in restoration projects for historic city buildings. Mandatory primer for sheetrock or gypsum plasters where slaked lime plasters and paints willl be applied. High breathability, absorbs toxins, prohibits mold forming bacteria.

TECHNICAL DATA SHEETDESCRIPTION
MARCOSIL GRIP is a mineral product containing modified potassium silicate, which permits application of MARCOSIL, finishes over old synthetic paints.
MARCOSIL GRIP restores the "plaster effect" permitting high filling and masking power and evening out the absorption of the base.
MARCOSIL GRIP breathes well, making it particularly suitable for restoration work in old buildings; it permits restoration of the mineral look typical of paint on historical buildings with MARCOSIL silicate finishes without requiring removal of existing coats of synthetic paint.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
May Be Applied Over:
- Old paint which is anchored to the surface.
- Lime and lime-cement based plasters.
- Civil plasters made with mixed mortar or the equivalent.
- Concrete surfaces. Silicate products are highly permeable and have no power to protect against the attacks of carbon dioxide, the main cause of concrete decay.

- Drying time (at 25°C and 65% RH): to touch within 1 hour; completely after 16 hours.
PREPARING THE SURFACE
Plaster Surfaces:
- Check condition of preservation. Surface must be consistent; if this is not the case, reconstruct the surface or consolidate it with specific products.
- Remote any efflorescence by brushing or washing it away.
- Level off irregularities in the base using BETOMARC 9450150 or RASAMIX 9440160 or other cement-based products.
- Brush off deposits of dust, smog, etc.
- Make sure that the surface is thoroughly dry, then apply:
- A layer of MARCOSIL PRIMER code 0750030 diluted by about 100% with water only on any portions of the base covered with plaster. Do not apply MARCOSIL PRIMER to surfaces with synthetic water-based paints.
- Must be thinned according to the degree of absorption of the base; if the base is very powdery, decreasing dilution and, if necessary, apply 2 coats of insulation.
- Wait at least 12 hours and then apply MARCOSIL GRIP as described in the instructions.
* (Dilutions of insulation and quantities to be applied depend on the absorption of the surface and must be determined with preliminary trials on the specific base.)
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Condition of the Environment and the Base:
- Ambient temperature: min. +5°C / max. +35°C with
- Ambient relative humidity: <80%
- Base temperature: min. + 5°C / max. + 35°C.
- Base humidity: >10%.
- Do not apply in the presence of surface condensation or in direct sunlight.
- After application, outdoor surfaces must be sheltered from rain and humidity until the product has dried completely, which normally (at 20°C) takes about 48 hours. Like all inorganic products, MARCOSIL GRIP is extremely sensitive to the conditions in the environment and on the base, and so it is important to comply with the above specifications.
- Thinning with water: 30 – 40%
- Stir before application
- N. of coats: 1
- Apply to base evenly with a brush.
- MARCOSIL GRIP must be covered at least 12 hours after application with MARCOSIL silicates. Protect (shield) glass, ceramic, plastic, metal or natural stone surfaces during application.
- Approximate yield: 5 – 7 square metres/litre on surfaces with average porosity. It is best to try using on the specific base to determine consumption.
TINTING
The product may be coloured using the MARCROMIE colouring system.
If separate or batches of coloured products are made or a job is completed with product made using a colour meter, mix production lots together to prevent slight differences in hue.
